At Arkos Health, we believe in the power of community and the importance of providing health care equity for all. As value-based care providers, we believe fostering strong community bonds through establishing trusted relationships and implementing local programs is fundamental to providing more personalized and impactful care solutions.
With this vision, Arkos Health was excited to co-host our first Sunset Supper event. We collaborated with local partners to create a unique community health experience that provided a safe, social space for everyone to share the benefits of health care resources and healthy lifestyle practices. This farm-to-table dinner event took place at The Obodo Urban Farm, an inspiring urban farm located in the historic West Side neighborhood, near Downtown Las Vegas.
During the event, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a fresh, locally sourced dinner that was prepared on site by Chef and Urban Farmer, Cheyenne Kyle. As dusk settled over the farm, we listened to local storytelling and experienced a live sound healing session. The Sunset Supper event brought together community members who may have never experienced an event like this in their neighborhood or anywhere else. We plan to continue these exciting events with an expanded program for the Fall Harvest Supper in October.
Partners & Guests
We are grateful to our event partners who we collaborated with throughout the planning process and the event. The Obodo Collective is a dynamic, community based non-profit organization, led by African American women. They own and operate the Obodo Urban Farm as a transformative place to grow fresh food and bring community together. The GENESIS Program at Roseman University provides clinical and social services to underserved communities and organizes numerous outreach and community events. We could not have done this without the help and support of our partners!
One of the Sunset Supper’s highlights was the demonstration of fresh vegan meals by renowned, local vegan chef, Stacey Dugan. Chef Dugan, creator of Simply Pure, provided lots of practical tips for incorporating more plant-based options into diets. Her demonstration included delicious tasting samples and was an engaging experience for many, as she provided information and encouragement to make healthier food choices.
Well known, and respected community Oral Historian, Claytee D. White, provided the storytelling, establishing the importance of sharing personal experiences and struggles with others. By sharing our stories, we fostered empathy and understanding within the community and inspired others to feel more comfortable to share their own challenges.
Concluding the evening, a calming, sound healing session led by Tiffany Ward left attendees with a soothing experience to pause and relax as a group. For many, it allowed for the release of stress or tension. Sound Healing is a powerful therapy using the sound vibrations from bowls to instill a moving and healing experience.
In addition to these activities, we provided a safe play space for children who came with their family. We were excited to have families attend the event. We witnessed a heartwarming evening as neighbors came together, shared a meal, and engaged in a memorable experience of delicious food, engaging experiences, and health benefits.
