The Arkos Health Wild about Wellness event at the Phoenix Zoo on April 19th was a wonderful success, blending the joys of a day at the zoo with a comprehensive health-focused program. There were an exciting line-up of activities, attractions, and special guests, making the event both entertaining and instrumental in promoting health awareness within the Phoenix community.
The event offered immunizations along with an array of activities for kids of all ages, including bubbles, tattoos, coloring, origami, and carousel rides. The zoo setting allowed families to enjoy a day full of adventure while focusing on their well-being.
The presence of special guests added an extra layer of excitement. The YMCA offered a soothing yoga demonstration, while Michaele Franks, Senior VP of Plan Product, Western Region at Centene/Arizona Complete Health, lent his insights and support. The event was also a testament to the teamwork within Arkos Health. Staff from various departments collaborated seamlessly to ensure a memorable day for all attendees.
A particularly touching moment occurred when a raffle winner, overwhelmed with gratitude, hugged an Arkos employee after winning a gift card raffle prize. Despite battling breast cancer and facing financial strain, she found solace and support among the Arkos family. Such testimonials reaffirmed the event’s impact on attendees.
A range of valuable screenings and educational sessions was available, including diabetic eye exams, mammograms, A1c testing, blood pressure checks, and child immunizations. Our Community Health Workers provided informative demonstrations, enhancing attendees’ understanding of managing their health.
Well-child visits and Comprehensive Health Assessments (CHAs) were offered for Arizona Complete Health members in attendance. Members found these screenings insightful, gaining valuable knowledge about their health conditions and subsequent follow-ups required.
The Importance of Community Engagement
The event was a significant step in fostering community engagement around health awareness and preventative care. By providing resources and education, Arkos Health empowered members to become health activists, actively participating in their wellness journey.
The successful collaboration with vendors like Adelante Healthcare, Terros Health, Alzheimer’s Association, and many more, underscores the power of partnerships. Their invaluable contributions amplified the event’s success, ensuring attendees could access a wide array of resources and services.
With a turnout of 134 attendees and 61 nurse practitioner visits, the Wild about Wellness event was not just a day of fun but a day of impactful health engagement. By highlighting available benefits and how Arkos Health and partner organizations can support people’s health journeys, the event successfully built stronger bridges between members and their health resources.
